Happy New Year! I’m trying to stay upbeat here but December was way too warm. I spend a lot of time in the bamboo in our yard and I have never seen so much life in December. Also, our pear tree is blooming, there are all kinds of tiny spiders and frogs out, mosquitos are still biting and the Carolina Wrens have started a nest in our side yard – this is not right. Yes, this is Florida, but we usually have a colder winter.
We have loads of tree frogs all summer long but they are usually hibernating this time of year:
A little orchard spider has already set up housekeeping:
Yesterday morning, there were loads of these little snails, the size of a pinhead:
The bamboo is still full of ladybugs:
And ladybug larvae:
I have been alarmed by climate change for a long time and this winter here in Florida is frightening.
